Washington, D.C. (February 27, 2025) – With Legacy on Ice set to take place on Sunday, March 2 from 3-5 PM, Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE), Entertainment Gang, and U.S. Figure Skating announced today a series of engaging activations taking place outside of the arena, on the concourses and in the bowl at Capital One Arena for guests attending the event honoring the victims and first responders impacted by the tragedy at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
Event Activations
In a poignant tribute, the dasher boards around the rink at Capital One Arena will display a panel of 67 stars, commemorating each of the victims of the January 29 crash.
The DC Fire and EMS Department will fly an American flag hung between two ladder trucks across F Street NW in front of the main entrance to Capital One Arena, prominently visible for arriving guests. The tradition of the ladder arch honors those who lost their lives in service of others.
A dedicated group of K9s and their handlers from the DC Fire and EMS Department will be present, engaging with attendees as they walk the concourse prior to the event’s commencement. In addition, therapy dogs will also be on hand for families and loved ones who may choose to attend.
Representatives from local sports teams, including the Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, Washington Mystics, Washington Commanders, Washington Nationals, D.C. United, and the Washington Spirit will be in attendance, showcasing the community’s solidarity and support.
Fan-favorite local mascots, including G-Wiz (Washington Wizards), Major Tuddy (Washington Commanders), Racing President Abe (Washington Nationals), Talon (D.C. United), and PK (Washington Spirit) will be available for meet-and-greet opportunities.
Merchandise Offerings
U.S. Figure Skating will be selling a selection of commemorative merchandise at Section 100, with all net proceeds being fully donated to the benefit recipients.
Announced yesterday, the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation (MSEF) will open an online benefit auction on Sunday ahead of Legacy on Ice, offering additional opportunities to support communities impacted by this tragedy.
