Washington Mystics Season Opener Sees Record Viewership on Monumental Sports Network

Network registers highest regular season single-game ratings in more than three seasons for Tuesday’s game against New York

Washington, D.C. (May 16, 2024) Monumental Sports Network (MNMT) registered its highest viewership in more than three years for a regular season WNBA game during Tuesday’s season opener between the Washington Mystics and New York Liberty.

The May 14 telecast was Monumental Sports Network’s most watched WNBA regular season broadcast since at least the start of the 2021 season and Monumental Sports Network outperformed CBS by 104% and ESPN by 48% in the Washington, D.C. market during the game. Tuesday’s game also shattered 2023’s high viewership mark for the Mystics, outperforming last year’s most-viewed game by 131% (8/31/23 vs. Las Vegas Aces). “Our network is proud to be the top innovator for regional WNBA coverage, and we are thrilled to see that the quality of our programming is resonating with D.C.-area fans and meeting this moment of increased popularity for the league,” said Zach Leonsis, President of Media & New Enterprises at Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE). “We’re looking forward to a summer filled with exciting live broadcasts and other creative Mystics content on our platform and for the fans.”

In April, Monumental Sports Network announced that 32 of the Mystics’ 40 regular season games would air on the regional media platform during the 2024 season. The next Mystics game on MNMT will be on Sunday, May 19 at 3 PM against the Seattle Storm.

In addition to the live game broadcasts, new this season MNMT will produce Mystics Courtside, a monthly magazine show that features the best behind-the-scenes moments and off-court stories with Mystics players, staff, and fans. The show is scheduled to premiere on Monday, May 20 at 5 PM on Monumental Sports Network. Monday’s episode will feature fun footage of the entire Mystics squad as they enjoy Media Day, go behind the scenes to sip wine at an annual fundraiser with Ariel Atkins and Myisha Hines-Allen, and includes a sit-down with rookie Aaliyah Edwards to learn more about her first weeks in D.C.

After the Mystics became the first WNBA team to feature a dedicated pre and postgame show for every regional game broadcast last season, Monumental Sports Network will also continue to broadcast Mystics Pregame Live and Mystics Postgame Live before and after each game on the network. The 30-minute shows provide informative team analysis and commentary live from MNMT’s recently opened state-of-the-art broadcast studios.

“We are so lucky to have a growing fanbase that not only packs the arena to watch our games in-person but regularly tunes in to our game broadcasts,” said Alycen McAuley, Chief Business Officer for the Washington Mystics. “We’re seeing record interest in our product and know that our fans will continue to engage with the phenomenal Mystics coverage on Monumental Sports Network all season long.”

Mystics games on Monumental Sports Network are available to fans both on linear tv and via streaming platforms within the network’s geographic footprint, stretching from Delaware to Richmond. Fans can watch the games through their Pay TV subscription, on monumentalsportsnetwork.com, or by downloading the Monumental streaming app on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV and using an eligible TV Everywhere log-in. Fans without a Pay TV subscription are invited to purchase a monthly or annual direct-to-consumer membership at monumentalsportsnetwork.com or by downloading the Monumental Sports Network app.
