Wizards District Gaming Trades for No. 1 Pick in 2024 NBA 2K League Draft

Wizards District Gaming, the Washington Wizards’ NBA 2K League affiliate owned and operated by Monumental Sports & Entertainment, has completed a trade with Mavs Gaming for the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA 2K League Draft.

After the league’s eligible trade window opened, the team made multiple season-changing agreements with Mavs Gaming, including retaining the rights to returning player Ryan “Dayfri” Conger before trading him to Mavs Gaming to secure the No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft. WDG also traded Justin “Kapp” Kaplan to secure the pick in 2024, and swapped WDG’s 2025 second round pick for the Mavs first rounder in the 2025 draft.

“We’re excited to be in the best possible position to add another elite player to our roster for the 2024 NBA 2K League season,” said Patrick Crossan, Wizards District Gaming Head Coach & General Manager. “We’ll spend the next few months scouting the best 2K talent in the world as we prepare to compete for a championship next season.”

In a separate transaction, Wizards District Gaming traded its 2024 second round pick (No. 31 overall) to Pistons GT for Brandon “B Rich” Richardson, who played for WDG from 2020-2022. WDG retained veteran players Antonio “Newdini” Newman and Justin “Just Awkward” Howell from its 2023 roster.

The team is set to make the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA 2K League draft for the second time in franchise history. With the first pick in the 2020 Draft, WDG selected Jack “JBM” Mascone who went on to play the point guard position for WDG leading to two League Championships in 2020 and 2021. JBM was named Finals MVP in 2020, and an NBA 2K League All-Star and First Team All-NBA 2K League in 2021.

The draft-eligible player pool will consist of new players who were selected by the 2K league following a tryout, players from the league’s international invitational tournaments, team-hosted 5v5 and 3v3 tournaments, and players who were unretained from the 2023 season. The final date of the draft will be announced in the coming months by the NBA 2K League.
