Wizards District Gaming Announces 2023 Season Schedule

Team opens with local-market group play on March 9 vs. Knicks Gaming live at District E. Full league play to begin in person on March 29.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Wizards District Gaming announced its 2023 NBA 2K League schedule with the team’s season opener set for Thursday, March 9 against Knicks Gaming in THE SLAM OPEN 3v3 tournament live and in-person at District E Powered by Ticketmaster. The 20-week season will kick off for the entire league on Thursday, March 8 and will conclude in August with the 2023 NBA 2K League 5v5 Finals. The 2023 Wizards District Gaming (WDG) season is presented by Leidos.

The 2023 NBA 2K League season will again be a mix of remote and in-person game play. Each team will begin the season remotely from its local market to be simulcast live on the NBA 2K League’s Twitch and YouTube channels. All in-person games will be hosted in Washington, D.C. at the soon-to-be opened, District E Powered by Ticketmaster esports gaming theater, which serves as the home arena for Wizards District Gaming. “Wizards District Gaming is ready to start our pursuit of another NBA 2K League Championship for 2023. The team concluded the 2022 season with its third consecutive appearance in the 5v5 Finals, advanced all the way to the inaugural 3v3 Finals, and several veteran players received league honors, including former center Dayfri being named the league’s MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. In the off-season, the team transitioned its roster by trading for John “Witness” Mushaben and drafting Alex “Gloski” Pimentel with the 39th pick in the 2023 NBA 2K League Draft. Those additions join the retained group of Justin “Kapp” Kaplan, Justin “Just Awkward” Howell and Antonio “Newdini” Newman (the winningest player in league history), who all returned from last season’s roster which competed in four different tournament and playoff finals in the 2022 season.

For the first time ever, WDG will play all of its local-market games in front of a home crowd at District E. Leidos is the first-ever Season Presenting Partner for all live WDG games at District E and will have its brand featured throughout the live game experience in the new state-of-the-art esports arena. The NBA 2K League’s 25 teams, including the league’s expansion team representing Australia, NBL Oz Gaming –its third international franchise–will compete in 3v3 and 5v5 splits throughout the season The 3v3 portion of the season begins with the Coinbase NBA2KL 3v3 SLAM OPEN on March 8 and will finish with the NBA2KL 3v3 Finals on Saturday, May 13. The 5v5 competition begins on Wednesday, May 23 with THE TIPOFF Powered by AT&T and will culminate with the NBA2KL 5v5 Finals on Saturday, Aug. 5. The NBA 2K League will award $2.5 million in cash prizes across THE BANNER CHAIN SERIES Powered by AT&T and Coinbase NBA 2KL 3v3 BLACKTOP SERIES tournaments, and the NBA 2K League 3v3 and 5v5 Playoffs.
