Monumental Sports & Entertainment Promotes Jordan Silberman to General Manager of Capital One Arena

Washington, D.C. – Monumental Sports & Entertainment today announced Jordan Silberman has been promoted to General Manager of Capital One Arena, home of the Washington Capitals, Wizards, Georgetown University’s Men’s Basketball and host of hundreds of concerts, events and other sports tournaments in downtown Washington, D.C.

“Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s Capital One Arena is a global destination for artists and athletes and the millions of sports, music and entertainment fans who come here to watch them, and they are all treated to an extraordinary experience,” said Ted Leonsis, Founder & CEO of Monumental Sports & Entertainment. “We are thrilled to announce Jordan Silberman as our new General Manager, and we know he will carry forth the tradition of excellence at this signature venue and continue our innovative work for current and future fans.”

Silberman joined Monumental Sports & Entertainment in 2009 and grew to take on more responsibilities in the organization, most recently serving as Vice President of Operations and Assistant General Manager of Capital One Arena. As General Manager, he will oversee all aspects of the operation, programming, and safety of the facility and will report to Sashi Brown who, in addition to his role as Chief Planning & Operations Officer of Monumental Basketball, has taken on responsibility for all venue departments on an interim basis.

“It is with great pride and excitement that I step into this role to lead our arena team as we welcome sports and entertainment fans back to Capital One Arena,” said Silberman. “As we re-emerge, post-pandemic, we look forward to showcasing all our health and safety upgrades, our infrastructure enhancements, and the incredible investments in amenities which will leave lasting memories with each of our guests.”

Capital One Arena is home to the NBA’s Washington Wizards, the NHL’s 2018 Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals, and the NCAA’s Georgetown Hoyas men’s basketball team. Boasting an average of 220 events per year, Capital One Arena is the heart of an $9.2 billion redevelopment that began 24 years ago when the arena was built and opened on Dec. 2, 1997. Since then, the privately financed arena has hosted 47 million people and more than 4,500 events. In 2019, Monumental Sports & Entertainment completed a $70 million renovation of the arena, adding a 360-degree, 7,000 square-foot retractable center hung scoreboard, a four 2-sided 2,200 square-foot DualTV boards in each arena corner, and a 9,250 square-foot SkyRing display which wraps across the roofline of the arena. In addition, the dining experience at the arena was reimagined with expanded food and beverage choices, luxury seating options and destination lounges across each floor level.

Capital One Arena is a key driver of economic activity downtown, contributing to the Washington, D.C.’s ability to collect $284 million a year in taxes generated by restaurants, bars, and retailers around the arena. A winner of the 2020 Travelers’ Choice Award of Top Attractions Worldwide and consistently earning a top-ranking venue spot in worldwide ticket sales, according to Pollstar, Capital One Arena seats 20,000 fans and welcomes nearly 3 million people each year across the more than 220 sports and entertainment events it hosts.

In 2019, Monumental Sports & Entertainment announced the first-ever sportsbook operation within a U.S. arena through a partnership with William Hill – and it opened its temporary doors in July 2020 in the lobby of Capital One Arena. The permanent sportsbook will be opening within the arena footprint in the coming weeks, and it is a 30,000 square feet structure spread across two levels and offers fans the ability to ingress and egress from the sportsbook to the arena as well as the street. An immersive, replica center hung of the famous Capital One Arena scoreboard will descend between floors and will broadcast games and statistical lines viewable across the space, as will the dozens of high-definition, LED screens adorning the walls.

This first-of-its-kind, in-arena sports book will provide fans with bespoke furnishings, iconic sports memorabilia, three bars and a restaurant – which will be headlined by a celebrity chef to be announced in the coming weeks. This new, open-365-day-a-year destination will drive fans to arrive to the Capital One Arena sports and entertainment complex early to take in pre-event activities or even stay later after seeing an incredible sold-out event.
