We're creating next-generation sports and entertainment experiences.
Constant innovation is at the core of our business. It’s what makes us an industry leader and it’s what enables us to deliver extraordinary experiences for our fans and partners.
We’re investing heavily in esports because we see the rapid growth of fandom globally and are posed to capitalize on that phenomenon. We introduced a gaming wall to our arena and hosted live esports tournaments for fans – and will soon be opening District E presented by Ticketmaster, a 14,000 square foot live-event theater offering a 365-day-a-year, series of immersive experiences in esports, music, event programming, and community events.
We’re leading the way on sport betting, adding real-time data to in-game and in broadcast so fans can bet smart and enjoy the sports they love in completely new ways. And in 2020, we opened the first ever, in-arena sportsbook in the US – partnering with Caesars Entertainment and have since opened a permanent location, expanded that location and added award winning chef, Guy Fieri, to create a destination culinary experience within the book.
Our Athlete Performance team leverages best-in-class data systems, technologies and tools to help our team’s gain the extra edge.
And we’ve invested in the latest LED and videoboard technology to help redefine the live experience and offering brand partners incredibly powerful opportunities to connect with our large and passionate audiences.
Esports has gone global and Monumental is excited to be a major player.
As a key investor in aXiomatic, we’ve built a portfolio of dynamic company holdings in the esports and video gaming industry. And with controlling interest in one of the world’s premier esports brands, Team Liquid, we’re leading the way as live video gaming fast becomes the world’s next major, mainstream, mass-market sport.
We’re also investing right here in D.C.! In 2017, we launched our 2x NBA 2K League Championship team Wizards District Gaming in the inaugural season of the League. In 2019, we debuted Caps Gaming, the esports sub-brand and official esports representative for the Washington Capitals, and created an annual Chel showcase and 3s gaming challenges to create a space for hockey’s esports gamers to engage through competitions and grassroots events. We also strengthened our investment in esports with the announcement of District E Powered by Ticketmaster to be the flagship venue for esports & entertainment on the east coast.
For our brand partners, esports offers an incredible opportunity to connect with a huge fan base. In 2021 esports captured nearly 500 million viewers globally, with the total audience expected to reach nearly 650 million by 2025. PwC projects worldwide esports revenues of $323.5 billion by 2026.
With these and similar initiatives, we’re elevating the sport to the very highest professional standards and are introducing new audiences to the excitement of esports.
We’re leading the way to reimagine what the sports betting experience looks like. We started with giving fans access to high-quality, real-time game data to help them bet smart and responsibly. We debuted an alternate sports betting-focused broadcast experience, featuring a “predict-it” game that allowed viewers to watch and guess what would happen next. It was the first betting-style broadcast by any of the four American major sports leagues.
We’re re-imagining the ways fans experience sports alongside sport betting. Very soon, fans will be able to enter Capital One Arena 24-7 to eat, drink and socialize in fantastic new viewing lounges, bars and restaurants, while placing wagers on sports events from around the world. Fans and guests of the arena now have more ways to engage with sports betting as they choose within the walls of Capital One Arena. Supporting an organizational belief that data-driven betting is superior and sports gaming is an activity of skill helped by more data, bandwidth and technology, the benefits of the sportsbook extend throughout the arena itself which offers multiple touchpoints for fans to stay engaged.
And during our live games, you’ll start to have access to real-time sports data. Having access to information enables people to make informed choices. Fans need up to the second, accurate information. Our investments in real-time data allow us to give our guests this vital information through their mobile devices or via the new scoreboard and LED Dual Vision boards we’re introducing throughout the Capital One Arena.
Sport betting is just one more way we’re raising the game of the live sport experience.
