Part of Monumental Varsity initiative, network will air two full days of boys and girls high school hoops action on Jan. 10–11 showcasing elite talent across the national capital region
WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 18, 2025) – Monumental Sports Network (MNMT) will broadcast 10 live high school basketball games on Saturday, Jan. 10 and Sunday, Jan. 11 as part of the fourth-annual “Basketball Day in the DMV” presented by Ticketmaster. In partnership with the Washington Wizards, MNMT will deliver two days of premier boys and girls matchups featuring many of the region’s top programs and nationally ranked teams.
“The DMV continues to be one of the most influential basketball communities in the country, and we are proud to elevate local athletes through our coverage of ‘Basketball Day in the DMV,’” said Friday Abernethy, General Manager, MNMT. “Providing a professional broadcast platform for high school sports is core to our mission. We are excited to bring these elite matchups into households across the region and to continue growing our investment in local athletics through Monumental Varsity.”
MNMT is producing and airing all 10 games at no cost to the participating schools, with each broadcast featuring a full professional production team similar to Wizards and Capitals game coverage, including on-air play-by-play, color commentary, and sideline reporting. On-air talent for Basketball Day in the DMV will include MNMT’s Wes Hall, Christy Winters Scott, Jimmy Patsos, and several other well-knownnames to DMV basketball fans. The network’s expansive footprint reaches millions of households across the region, offering student-athletes a major stage to compete in front of family, friends, and local basketball fans.
This year’s event includes matchups featuring nationally ranked programs such as #2 Paul VI (Boys), #3 Bullis (Girls), #11 St. Frances (Girls), #12 Bishop McNamara (Girls), #19 Monsignor Scanlon (Girls), #23 DeMatha Catholic (Boys) and other powerhouse programs from D.C., Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and New Jersey. All games will take place at DeMatha Catholic High School as part of the Capitol Hoops Challenge.

Earlier this month, Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) announced Monumental Varsity, a new umbrella platform that elevates and unifies all high school sports programming across the organization—anchored by its expansive basketball initiatives led by Monumental Basketball and MNMT. The platform brings together signature events like “Basketball Day in the DMV,” which strengthen MSE’s deep investment in celebrating DMV-area student athletes, expanding access to sports industry opportunities, and deepening MSE’s presence in the local high school athletics community.
In addition to the network’s high school basketball coverage and exclusive local television media rights for the NBA’s Washington Wizards, NHL’s Washington Capitals, WNBA’s Washington Mystics, and NBA G League’s Capital City Go-Go, in November MNMT announced partnerships with George Mason University (VA), George Washington University (D.C.), Hampton University (VA), Towson University (MD), and the University of Richmond (VA) to air live college basketball games on the network during the 2025-26 season. Throughout the current season, MNMT will showcase 72 college basketball games—the most in network history—including 34 women’s basketball matchups and 20 men’s and women’s basketball games from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) via a partnership with HBCU GO. MNMT is projected to air nearly 500 live games across all sports during the 2025-26 season.
