Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation Commemorates National Nonprofit Day and Announces $1M in Charitable Donations Given During the 2022-23 Fiscal Period

 

Washington, D.C – Today, Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation (MSEF) honors National Nonprofit Day and shares that it has provided more than $1 million in grants and another $165K+ in donated goods or services to nonprofits and community groups in Washington, D.C., and the surrounding region. The 2022-23 fiscal period milestone marks just the second time in Foundation history that the organization has surpassed $1M in grants, and the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.

MSEF is the charitable arm of the NHL’s Washington Capitals, NBA’s Washington Wizards, WNBA’s Washington Mystics and their ownership group, Monumental Sports & Entertainment.

“Our fans and neighbors are the pillars of the Monumental Sports’ teams and organization and being able to return the support they show us each season helps create a lasting impact in our community,” shared Elizabeth Pace, President and Executive Director, Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation. “We are proud to have so many amazing partners who work tirelessly to meet the diverse needs of the DMV region year after year. MSEF collaborates with numerous partners throughout the year to achieve its mission to make the region a better place for all by supporting game-changing solutions for the community. 2022-23 partners receiving $20K and above include:

 

In addition, MSEF has provided grants up to $15K to the following beneficiaries: The American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom, Artbae, Baltimore City Fire Foundation, Black Girl Hockey Club, Bowie Hockey Club, Bowie State University Foundation, College Track Ward 8, Congress Heights Community Training & Development Corporation, The DC Center for the LGBT Community, D.C. Firefighters Burn Foundation, District of Columbia Public Library Foundation, Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, George Mason University Ice Hockey Alumni Foundation, Hoop For All Foundation, Human Rights Campaign Foundation, Humane Rescue Alliance, I AM ALS, The Ladd Foundation (1616), Morgan’s Message, Navy Youth Hockey Association, New Endeavors by Women, Rink2Reef, Sharing Shoes, Spectrum Center Spokane, Team DC, Thurgood Marshall Academy, Titans Youth Hockey, The Trevor Project,  Unmatched Athlete, USA Hockey Foundation and the Westley Unseld Scholarship Foundation.

MSEF generates its funds through a combination of auctions, campaigns, programs, 50/50 raffles at Capitals and Wizards games, and events throughout the season. Annual events include Caps Fore Charity and Wizards Ballers & Birdies. The Foundation uses the bulk of its proceeds to reinvest in community efforts throughout the year and supports nonprofits around D.C., Virginia and Maryland doing the vital work of advancing shared prosperity throughout the region.
