Celtics Gaming and Wizards District Gaming Announce Inaugural Corridor Cup

Game at District E to be televised live on NBC Sports Boston and NBC Sports Washington

BOSTON, MA/WASHINGTON, D.C. – Celtics Gaming, the official NBA 2K League affiliate of the Boston Celtics, will compete against Wizards District Gaming, the official NBA 2K League affiliate of the Washington Wizards, in the inaugural Corridor Cup, marking the first time an NBA 2K League team game with a prize purse will take place outside of existing league tournaments and playoffs. The Corridor Cup, named after the Northeast Corridor rail line that runs from Boston to Washington, D.C., will take place on Saturday, June 24 at 4:00 p.m. ET at District E Powered By Ticketmaster – the host of the 2023 NBA 2K League’s season for in-person games and tournaments. The winning team will take home $2,500.

“We are looking forward to the first Corridor Cup, which we hope to make an annual match-up,” said Celtics Gaming Managing Director Jim Ferris. “Celtics Gaming is especially appreciative of the support from NBC Sports Boston, who will be televising the game to allow for more fans to experience the competition live and cheer on the team.”

This competition will be the first 5v5 Celtics Gaming match to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Boston and the second Wizards District Gaming competition this season to be shown live on NBC Sports Washington. District E Powered by Ticketmaster is the home training facility and esports competition theater for Wizards District Gaming.

“The culture of competition between the cities of Boston and D.C. is so vibrant – and the same is true for esports fans across both markets,” shared Andrew McNeill, Senior Director, Esports for Monumental Sports. “Sharing that energy with a live audience as well as extending our reach to new audiences through our broadcasting partners, notably NBC Sports Washington, is an exciting new direction for us as we continue to grow the sport, our team and the league.”

Celtics Gaming is committed to building the infrastructure needed to maintain the team’s competitive edge, producing behind the scenes content to share with passionate fans, and hosting regional events to connect gamers to the competitive world of NBA2K.

The twice NBA 2K League champion Wizards District Gaming has become the winningest organization in the NBA 2K League with over $1.4 million in prize money won in the league’s first five seasons. With the opening of District E, Wizards District Gaming is engaging directly with the local esports community and providing a hub for competitive gaming enthusiasts throughout the DMV to watch, play, and connect with fellow gamers.
